Theta SequencingSequencing– Dual Solo Exhibition
6 July – 10 September 2024

Lucie Chang Fine Arts is pleased to announce the upcoming exhibition, "Theta Sequencing," which will feature the artworks of two
exceptional young female artists, Ji Zou and Zhou Binbin who have grown up and studied overseas since childhood. This exhibition
provides art enthusiasts with a unique opportunity to delve deeper into the artistic journeys and inspirations of these remarkable
talents.
Ji Zou was raised in a Hmong and Chinese family in suburban Michigan. After completing their undergraduate studies at the
University of Michigan, they pursued their Master of Fine Arts at the Rhode Island School of Design. Their artworks have been
presented widely in group exhibitions at Collaborations, Copenhagen; The Hole, New York; Vardan Gallery, LA and several other
galleries since 2022. Zou’s recent body of work explores the ideas of expression, exploitation, visibility, and commodification of
sexual spaces on social media platforms. Referencing texts by Legacy Russell and Donna Haraway, the work questions the boundaries
between the identities we carry online and offline. Ji Zou combines traditional painting techniques with current digital painting modes
to examine the impact of the digital era on personal identity and art. Their work provokes viewers' notions about the impact of the
simulacra, the commodification of the erotic, and what it means to connect to others and the self.
Zhou Binbin, a Chinese artist currently residing between Madrid and Shanghai, moved to Bilbao at four years old and completed her
studies at Camberwell College of Arts and Fine Arts from Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London. Binbin draws
inspiration from traditional Chinese themes and symbolism, juxtaposing traditional Chinese artistic elements with a modern digital
aesthetic, and creating abundant tapestries of contrasting imagery. Influenced by renowned artists such as Qi Baishi, her works pay
tribute to the enduring qualities of resilience, strength, nobility, and humility embodied by bamboo. Seamlessly bridging the gap
between tradition and modernity through her skillful contemporary interpretations, Binbin infuses each brushstroke with meaning,
inviting viewers to reflect on these virtues in their own lives. Additionally, Binbin's latest works feature grasshoppers and morning
glories, symbolizing vitality, freedom, hope, and the resilience of life. Her paintings showcase the beauty and harmony of nature while
inspiring contemplation on the interplay between life and art.
"Theta Sequencing" invites viewers on a visual journey into the personal and spiritual realms of the artists, providing an opportunity to
immerse themselves in rich themes of contrast, cultural symbolism, and thought-provoking imagery. The exhibition presents a diverse
range of styles and techniques, as both artists demonstrate a profound understanding of color, composition, and materiality, creating
immersive artworks that resonate on multiple levels.
The "Theta Sequencing" exhibition will be open to the public from July 6 to September 10, 2024. Lucie Chang Fine Arts warmly
welcomes art enthusiasts, collectors, and the public to witness the extraordinary talent, creativity, and cultural impact of Ji Zou and
Zhou Binbin. It will be an opportunity to engage in profound conversations about art, culture, and the digital age.
